Technology isn’t something new, but as the connotation of the word continues to evolve in society, it bridges gaps for those who may not understand it, or it’s benefits. Sometimes the word technology gives individuals a negative emotional response as they may not understand it. They will just say things like “well i’m technology illiterate” or “I’m not smart when it comes to dealing with tech stuff.” These self-deprecating phrases and statements only reflect the fear that comes with truly understanding something that isn’t human. One can absolutely argue that humans are more complicated than technology, but in reality, understanding that technology is so much more than chords and monitor will help people understand how to better utilize it.
There seems to be a large generational gap in accepting technology as a part of daily life integration. It is widely stereotyped that younger consumers are more apt to utilize technology every day while the older generation rejects the idea of smart phones and screens inside cars. Technology is truly meant to help, not hurt society. A large reason people reject the daily use of technology is just because they lack a basic understanding of the object at use. Technology isn’t something that humans are born knowing, it is a learned skill. The reason the younger generation has an easier time understanding it is because they grew up using screens as part of their daily routine. Computers and laptops were inside their classrooms from a young age. They learned the life skill young and continued to grow from there. Because the older generation had it introduced to them later in life, many feel as if it was harder to learn for them. Everyone has to start somewhere.
With many things, people often reject change. Technology is a continually changing industry that requires consistent knowledge updates and constant learning from consumers and innovators. For this reason, it can be widely rejected by those who claim “they just don’t know to use it.” Technology doesn’t mean that history is erased. People claim that newer students will never know how to use a pen and paper or what reading paper books is all about. This argument is highly invalid due to that fact that history is so wonderfully preserved. Technology is meant to benefit consumers and machines. It is meant to provide a way of making systems more efficient.
Technology does not erase books and hands on projects, it is meant to be there as an enhancer for learning and providing efficenity in day to day tasks in the lives of people. Technology can also enhance communication between working people and families. As mobile phones and screens become an integrated form of daily routines, utilizing them to communicate and network with others can have a positive impact on people. Technology provides people with things like video chat, advanced investment platforms and VR technology. As technology continues to grow and revolutionize industries, it is important that workers and consumers accept and learn how to use it rather than going against it. Change is inevitable.
The point of this article is that we can not allow fear of adopting new technology stand in our way. Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies and recent advancements in the tech industry can be a bit scary, but it’s important to remember that all of these developments can have positive impact on society today.
