According to the American Public Health Association, gun violence is a leading cause of premature death in the U.S. Guns kill more than 38,000 people and cause nearly 85,000 injuries each year. Recent mass shootings keep gun violence in the headlines and the public divided over how to respond.

To address this growing crisis from a public health perspective, the Gun Violence: A Public Health Issue symposium will be held on September 13, 2019, from 11am to 3pm in the Mobley Auditorium (Room C100) at the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington. It will feature presentations by invited experts, a moderated panel discussion and Q & A, and breakout sessions for further discussion. The event is free and open to the public.

The symposium will feature the following invited speakers:

• Shani Buggs, University of California, Davis School of Medicine
• Natalie Hipple, Indiana University Department of Criminal Justice
• Jody Madeira, Indiana University Maurer School of Law
