A provisional course may only be listed in the Schedule of Classes when the offering unit has approval for provisional status from the Committee, which may be granted upon written request from a responsible representative of the offering unit (e.g., chair, head, dean, etc.) to the General Education Committee via email (gened@iusb.edu). The request should include a justification for provisional status and as much information as can be provided about the course. If provisional status is approved it will be contingent upon full Committee approval by a specific date. Further, its listing in the Schedule must indicate its provisional status using language that will be provided by the Committee.
Under no circumstances shall the fact that a course has been offered prior to full Committee approval affect the ultimate decision of the Committee. Approval for future semesters will not be granted unless (1) this procedure regarding provisional status is followed, (2) the proposing faculty member complies with Committee requests in a timely manner, and (3) the Committee ultimately comes to a favorable decision.
