Description: This course will explore the use of puppetry in the performance arts of theatre, television and film. Topics will include exploring the history and diversity of puppetry in world culture, appreciating various puppet styles and performance methods and research master puppeteers and their contribution to the field. This is a participatory class where students perform basic techniques in puppet movement, explore storytelling devices, create dimensional characters and design and build a basic hand puppet. The combination of these efforts will be demonstrated in a final group performance.
