Description: This course examines the gendered dimensions of global health. We will analyze how ideas about health intersect with culture and how state and global institutions have influenced, manipulated and exploited health. We will put a specific emphasis on the power relations and ideologies that surround gender and sexuality and examine how they are linked with global health inequalities. This course will explore contemporary issues and controversies – such as Zika, HIV/AIDS, and abortion rights – in global health through an interdisciplinary perspective.
