A point of confusion for several years has been the fact that only a subset of the HPER courses in current rotation had been officially approved by the Senate General Education Committee to satisfy the Health & Wellness component of our Extended Literacies.
However, in late 2021, the Committee granted a blanket approval so that all existing HPER courses can be used toward this requirement; all of these courses will include the agreed upon SLOs for Health & Wellness courses and participate in the General Education assessment cycle. If new HPER courses are developed they will need to go through the standard approval process as would any other new general-education offering.
Below is a listing of all current HPER courses that have now been officially approved, and this will be reflected in the Bulletin starting with the 2022-2023 edition, although this approval can be used retroactively for coursework completed in previous Bulletin years:
- HPER-E 111 Basketball
- HPER-E 187 Weight Training
- HPER-E 133 Fitness and Jogging I
- HPER-E 233 Fitness and Jogging II
- HPER-E 333 Fitness and Jogging III
- HPER-E 190 Yoga I
- HPER-E 290 Yoga II
- HPER-H 160 First Aid & Emergency Care
- HPER-N 220 Nutrition for Health
Note that other courses continue to satisfy this requirement as well, with approved options being offered by EDUC, HSC, MUS, NURS and THTR, as listed in the Bulletin.
