Motivations and Impact:
“I am motivated to show my students that there are not only problems out there in life, but also solutions. The way we get to those solutions is to work together with organizations that are serving our community and making change. My community-engaged classes seek to connect students with change-makers from the past, such as Freedom Riders in Nashville and Atlanta, during the Freedom Summer Tour or local community activists during my Latino and African American civil rights class. In my environmental justice work, I seek to connect students to partners who are creating sustainable ways of life in urban and rural areas.By helping these partners students gain the experience and confidence to go on creating solutions and cooperating with others to make change.”
