The Higher Ed Athletics podcast is a one-on-one long-form interview session (30-60 minutes) between IUPUI Sport Management alumnus Travis Smith and a NCAA Division 1 athletic director or college president/chancellor. Smith asks these administrators practical and detailed questions about the strategies they deploy to lead and oversee their institution’s athletic department. The Higher Ed Athletics podcast is available on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube, as well as directly on the IUPUI Sports Innovation Institute website.
Several Sport Management professors have assigned their students to listen and write about past episodes and that inspired SII to further integrate the HEA podcast into the classroom. The SII has added a Questions for the Classroom worksheet for several recent episodes and all future interviews. Each downloadable worksheet contains the link to the specific episode, 4 discussion questions, 4 comprehensive multiple choice questions, and a research question. Faculty members can email Kyle Mechelin at kjmechel@iu.edu for the password to a protected post where each episode answer sheet is stored. While faculty could assign any of the 30+ HEA interview episodes, SII hopes the growing list of worksheets in the interviews will help bring Higher Ed Athletics into your classroom.
Questions for the Classroom worksheets are currently available for the following HEA episodes.
- Nina King – Duke University VP/AD
- Wren Baker – University of North Texas VP/AD
- Jamie Boggs – Grand Canyon University VP/AD
- Ray Anderson – Arizona State University VP/AD
