In what department is the program located? The IUPUI Music Therapy program is part of the Department of Music and Arts Technology in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI.
Can I earn a graduate degree in Music Therapy at IUPUI? You can earn a Master of Science in Music Therapy at IUPUI either online or on-the-ground. The MSMTx program is available to individuals who are already board certified music therapists. You can also earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Music Technology, although the PhD has a residency requirement.
What about an undergraduate degree? The Indiana University Board of Trustees approved a new Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy in August, 2017. The Indiana Commission of Higher Education approved the new Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy in December, 2017. The degree curriculum was approved by the American Music Therapy Association on September 12, 2018.
Who teaches Music Therapy classes? All of our graduate Music Therapy core courses are taught by board certified music therapists with a doctoral degree. Our undergraduate core courses are taught by board certified music therapists with at least a graduate degree in Music Therapy or a related field. We believe that students benefit most when they spend time working with highly qualified clinicians, researchers, and educators; therefore, the majority of our undergraduate Music Therapy courses are taught by board certified music therapists with a doctoral degree in Music Therapy or a closely related field.
