by India Perry, senior sport management student and ROTC cadet
Over the years, my experience in the IU Indianapolis Army ROTC program has significantly enhanced my understanding of what it means to be a soldier in the United States.
Cadets focus on completing service-specific ROTC academic courses that earn college credits, while also engaging in weekly leadership labs and physical fitness training. Our physical training sessions occur three times a week from 6:30 to 7:30 AM, complemented by ROTC classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Each Thursday, we head to Camp Belzer for leadership labs that prepare us for Cadet Summer Training (CST). Additionally, we participate in fall and spring field training exercises (FTX) that simulate combat conditions, helping us adapt to the realities of military life.
In the spring, we collaborate with Indiana University cadets to share insights and experiences. By senior year, we take on more planning and leadership roles, and we also have various engaging extracurricular activities, including Color Guard, the 10-Miler, Ranger Challenge, and Raider Challenge.
