Small and mid-sized Indiana businesses that seek to expand their operations globally can now do so through a joint program involving Indiana University’s Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education’s Employment Readiness Network, also known as EARN Indiana.
Companies with fewer than 500 employees are eligible for the program, in which CIBER — which is housed in the Institute for International Business at IU’s Kelley School of Business — matches them with 12 full-time, qualified, in-state students from IU and other Indiana colleges and universities for an eight- to 12-week summer internship.
CIBER funds pay up to half of the wages for interns who pursue international aspirations. When combined with funds from EARN Indiana, companies can be fully reimbursed for wages paid to their interns. EARN Indiana is open to any Indiana resident who is a full-time student at any Indiana college or university with an expected family contribution of $7,500 or less.
Indiana INTERNnet — a free internship-matching program linking employers, students, high schools, colleges and universities — will accept applications from prospective employers and interns interested in applying to the CIBER and EARN Indiana programs. Additional program supporters include the Indiana Commercial Service office of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
