Already appointed last fall to the University Economic Development Association’s (UEDA) national board of directors, IU Kokomo Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke earlier this month began a two-year term as chair of the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance (GKEDA).
Within UEDA, Sciame-Giesecke was involved in the development of the organization’s Journal on Economic Development in Higher Education, which is expected to launch its inaugural edition in 2016. As IU Kokomo’s seventh chancellor, she also has played a lead role in regional partnerships involving education, business and economic growth and research.
“As chairperson of the board at GKEDA, I can assist in moving our community forward. Serving with UEDA on the national level, I can promote the important role that universities can play in local and regional economic development efforts, and gain knowledge and best practices to bring back to our region.”
She added that both opportunities coordinate well with Indiana University’s Bicentennial Strategic Plan, which in part calls for building a prosperous and innovative Indiana by promoting a statewide culture of building and making.
