The most ambitious research effort in Indiana University history — the Grand Challenges program — announced five finalists on Thursday (Jan. 8) to submit full proposals for consideration by an April 18 deadline.
Over the next four months, IU’s Office of the Vice President for Research and other university entities will work with finalist teams to develop the strongest proposals possible. Proposals selected as finalists focused on medicine and environmental science and policy.
“While we received proposals from a wide variety of fields, these five proposals impressed the reviewers as not only strong in their own right but as addressing issues of particular importance to the people and economy of Indiana.”
— Fred H. Cate, IU vice president for research
The Grand Challenges program will invest up to $300 million over five years to address some of the most urgent challenges facing Indiana and the world. Finalists were chosen from 21 teams of IU faculty members representing 20 schools on five IU campuses statewide.
