Round Two of IU’s Grand Challenges program — a $300 million, multidisciplinary research effort to address “major and large-scale problems” faced by humanity — is now under way, with a Nov. 11 deadline fast approaching for scientific teams that wish to submit their preliminary proposals.
For those who wish to learn more about the application process, two mid-October information sessions have been scheduled at IU’s Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses:
- IU Bloomington: Wednesday, Oct. 19th, 1:30–3 p.m., Georgian Room, Indiana Memorial Union.
- IUPUI: Thursday, Oct. 20th, 1–2 p.m., Room 1140, University Library.
Both sessions will include members of IU’s research leadership team. These sessions will focus on lessons learned during the initial round of proposal requests, offer strategic advice in proposal preparation and answer questions about submitting a preliminary proposal for the upcoming Grand Challenges round. For questions that require answers prior to the sessions, researchers may contact:
- Associate Vice President Faith Kirkham Hawkins
- Associate Vice President and Vice Chancellor Simon Atkinson (IUPUI)
- Associate Vice President and Vice Provost Rick Van Kooten (IU Bloomington)
- Associate Vice President and Executive Associate Dean Anantha Shekhar (IU School of Medicine). Shekhar is also team leader of the Precision Health Initiative, which won the opening round of the Grand Challenges project.
