Some of Indiana University’s brightest minds in informatics and computing will come together Sept. 8-9 at IU’s Cyberinfrastructure Building for Research Horizons. This inaugural event, designed to spark conversations on how research drives innovation, is chocked full of seminars on topics that range from artificial intelligence, security and bioinformatics to big data, programming languages and digitally mediated communication.
Keynote speakers include Pinterest co-founder and CEO Ben Silbermann, National Science Foundation assistant director Jim Kurose and Thomas Sterling, director of IU’s Center for Research in Extreme Scale Technologies (CREST). Among the guest speakers will be Tony Armstrong, president and CEO of the Indiana University Research and Technology Corp. Other guest speakers include:
- Bob Cruise, chief scientist, expeditionary systems department, Naval Surface Warfare Center-Crane;
- Martin Kruger, ISR thrust area manager, Office of Naval Research;
- Dave Acton, university liaison for NSWC-Crane;
- Sushil Prasad, program director for the National Science Foundation;
- Geoffrey Fox, distinguished professor of informatics, computing and physics at IU. Fox also serves as director of the Digital Science Center, chairs the Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering and directs the data science program at the School of Informatics and Computing.
