Joe Carley has been recognized as one of the top 10 professionals in Bloomington under 40 years old by the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce.
Carley is director for economic development at Indiana University, where he connects IU resources to industry, government, and economic and workforce development organizations throughout the state. He also is director of strategic partnerships at the IU Bloomington Center for Rural Engagement, where he develops partnerships with organizations in rural communities.
“I am honored to receive this recognition from the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, a highly respected organization that shares my commitment to building a vibrant and sustainable regional economy,” he said. “I appreciate the Chamber’s holistic vision for economic development, including the importance of cultivating young professionals with an interest in the future of Bloomington and the surrounding region.”
Carley helped launch the Indiana Innovation Institute, or IN3, which was formerly known as the Applied Research Institute. The IN3 promotes research collaborations between IU, Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane, Purdue and industry. He also assisted with the development of IU Bloomington’s Center for Rural Engagement, which received a $10 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to facilitate closer collaborations between IU Bloomington and rural communities. His other projects focus on advancing research collaborations in strategic industry sectors, supporting important state initiatives, and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation.
Carley and nine other honorees will be recognized at a program Thursday, July 26, at Ivy Tech Community College-Bloomington, 200 Daniels Way.
