Dana Jones, a third-year medical student at IU’s School of Medicine Northwest, recently won first place honors for a poster presentation during the American Medical Women’s Association’s (AMWA) 101st annual conference in Miami, Fla.
Jones’ presentation was titled “Pregnancy and an Expanding Right Breast Mass.” It detailed a case involving a young pregnant female with a lactating adenoma, described as “a benign mass that can occur during pregnancy from hormonal influence and can grow to a substantial size.” The adenoma was biopsied and later removed.
“My desire to do procedures and empower women collided,” said Jones, a Gary native and graduate of IU Bloomington who majored in human biology with a minor in chemistry. “There was an opportunity to submit a report for a poster presentation and eligibility for Young Women in Science Awards. So I sought out an interesting clinical case that highlights how fascinating I find obstetrics/gynecology to be.”
