IU technologies to be showcased in Chicago for venture capitalists and industry leaders

Leaders of private equity, investment banking, venture capital, angel investment, biopharmaceutical and medical-device organizations will attend a private showcase in Chicago of more than 40 top healthcare technologies discovered at Indiana University and other leading research institutions in the Midwest.

The second annual Midwest University HealthTech Showcase will be 6 to 9 p.m. CDT Monday, April 11, at MATTER, 222 Merchandise Mart Plaza, Suite 1230, Chicago. MATTER is a community of healthcare entrepreneurs and industry leaders working together in a shared space to advance healthcare innovation. The showcase will serve as the opening reception of the MedCity INVEST conference, which annually attracts more than 300 thought leaders, industry executives, venture capitalists and angel investors.

Jennifer Finefield, senior technology manager at Indiana University Research and Technology Corp., said the following IU technologies are scheduled to be in the showcase:

• A therapeutic for treatment of common, blinding eye diseases, developed by Dr. Timothy Corson at the Indiana University School of Medicine
• Rimedion Inc., a gene-therapy company committed to curing rare blood-related genetic disorders
• EmotEd LLC, a telehealth platform to treat patients suffering from neurological disorders

“Investors, venture capitalists and industry leaders will spend the evening getting to know Midwest university researchers and entrepreneurs who are developing key innovations that could impact people around the world,” Finefield said. “These technologies are ready for the next step of development, either through licensing or funding to support the existing startup company.”

Officials from the following universities and technology transfer organizations are scheduled to join IURTC personnel at the Midwest University HealthTech Showcase: BioSTL, Medical College of Wisconsin, Northwestern University, Rush University, The Ohio State University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois, University of Kansas, University of Notre Dame and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.
