A team of researchers from the Center for Complex Networks and Systems Research led by IU Bloomington assistant professor Yong-Youl “Y.Y.” Ahn was recently named as one of 11 winners of the LinkedIn Economic Graph Challenge.
Along with a $25,000 prize, the team traveled to LinkedIn’s headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., for a tour and to meet with LinkedIn engineer — and recent IU Bloomington graduate — Michael Conover, who will assist them with their proposed research project.
Their winning project is titled “Forecasting large-scale industrial evolution” and seeks to better understand the macro-evolution of industries to track businesses and emerging skills. Data from the project would be used to forecast economic trends and guide professionals toward promising career paths. The team has six months to complete its project and will present the results at LinkedIn headquarters this fall.
