Cody Foster, PhD May 20, 2021
I graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History in 2012. I’m writing because I just successfully defended my doctoral dissertation at the University of Kentucky (under Hang Nguyen and George Herring) and I wanted to share this exciting announcement with the Political Science department so that it could be included in the next department newsletter.
I worked with Dr. Nick Cullather (History) and Dr. Lauren MacLean (Political Science) pretty closely at IU from 2008-2012 where I was also a fellow in the McNair Scholars Program. I then went to the United Kingdom where I received a Master of Philosophy in Historical Studies in the Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge. I came back to the United States to work with George Herring at the University of Kentucky where I successfully defended my dissertation and will graduate on May 15, 2021 with a Ph.D. in History. My dissertation is titled, “To ‘Reawaken the Conscience of Mankind”: The International War Crimes Tribunal and Transnational Human Rights During the Vietnam War, 1966-1967.”
I’m continuing to teach at IU Southeast where I’ve taught since 2014 and I’ve just started working at Bellarmine University as a part-time faculty member too.
I do miss IU and I look forward to coming back with my two year old and wife (also an alum – SPEA ’13) in the very near future.
Hope you all are doing well!!
