I was lucky enough to attend CanvasCon IUPUI yesterday – and it was awesome! I ended up learning how others use Canvas for their teaching, and came up with a lot of ideas for how IT Training could possibly spice up our Canvas courses. I found out that there’s a huge user community for Canvas – the Canvas Community! There’s plenty of knowledge there for all users of Canvas, which will also likely give me some ideas for Canvas development as well as help me find answers when I’m stumped with something related to Canvas. I also learned a fair bit about assessments in Canvas, and Canvas analytics – both of which could help IT Training out when assessing the effectiveness of our learning initiatives. One of my favorite sessions was actually hosted by eDS staff from IU Bloomington, on Canvas templates to make development easier – we’ve actually already leveraged some of those ideas in courses like my personal favorite, Creating Research Posters. (I might be biased about Creating Research Posters, though, as I was the lead developer on that one and I do love anything to do with page layout and graphic design… 🙂 )
All in all, I had a great time and came away from CanvasCon with loads of new ideas for IT Training’s Canvas courses!
