Four tools administered by the UITS eLearning Services team will be retired over the next several months. Namecoach, VoiceThread, Examity, and Jamboard customers who are directly impacted have already been notified. See additional tool information at above link. Please contact instech@iu.edu if you have specific questions or concerns.
Although Knowledge Base URLs from the legacy system will redirect properly for the next year to the Knowledge Base in ServiceNow, full redirect mappings are available in a shared KB URL redirect mappings folder which you can reference if you need to update websites or other resources. If a legacy URL has no redirect, that particular article was archived sometime before the transition. Archived articles are no longer available in the new KB, but the KM team can access them if needed.

Supercomputing For Everyone Series: New Features in IU REDCap

REDCap is a self-managed, secure, web-based platform designed to support data collection and data management for research, operations support, and quality improvement projects. REDCap’s easy-to-use, intuitive features allow you to rapidly build and manage secure online surveys and databases. Supercomputing For Everyone Series: Introduction to Deep Learning

This workshop introduces IU students, faculty, and staff to Deep Learning on the Big Red 200 supercomputer. Attendees will learn to create their first NeuralNet, RandomForest, and function optimizer with the Deep Learning software stack on Big Red 200. Detailed examples with documented code will be provided and discussed. No prior knowledge of these techniques is assumed. Knowledge of Unix and Python is needed for the hands-on exercises. We will discuss being present, mindfulness, etc., and how to negotiate it in life and work. Help us crowdsource mindfulness, whether it is good, and how to deploy. CompTIA A+ is the industry-preferred qualifying credential for technical support and IT operational roles. CompTIA A+ CORE 1 covers mobile devices, networking technology, hardware, virtualization and cloud computing and network troubleshooting. The course is vendor-neutral and designed to assist in preparation for the CompTIA A+ Core 1 certification examination, 220-1101, one of two exams required for CompTIA A+ certification.

These sessions provide you the opportunity to become more informed about these services and to ask questions.

IT Community Partnerships (ITCP) supports those providing local UITS support at Indiana University through timely communications of important IT information, opportunities to connect with the IT community, and data resources to aid in decision-making for their unit or service.
Knowledge Base URL redirect mapping

The recording of the coffee hours by Endpoint Management Services, originally presented on October 4, 2024, is now live.
Unizin will be conducting maintenance on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, 5-7am ET and Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 1-3pm ET to perform mandatory upgrades to the CloudSQL network architecture affecting production, SIT, and UAT environments. In addition, on Saturday, October 19, between 8am and 12pm EST, Instructure (Canvas) will be performing a regularly scheduled monthly release in the IU Canvas instance. There is no downtime expected for this maintenance. Additional details at above ITCP Blog link.

IT Leadership Community Diversity and Inclusion Action Team workshop – Supporting international staff: The immigrant experience

In this session, we will provide essential information on hiring international staff, covering topics such as Optional Practical Training for F-1 students, the H-1B visa, and the permanent residency process. We will also explore the challenges international staff face, including timeline constraints, issues related to their dependents, and the limitations on growth opportunities while they are on visa status.
Whether you are a current student, full-time international staff member, or leader, these discussions are designed to help you understand the process and promote greater equity for international employees. Supercomputing For Everyone Series: Quantum Computing

This workshop provides a brief overview of quantum computing. A description of what it can and cannot do will be presented. Topics to be discussed include changes quantum computing will make to the non-quantum, general HPC community, and why a disparate collection of large corporations are investing huge sums of money into a product which, as yet, has delivered no return. Also included will be a description of competing hardware and a simple, hands-on quantum programming exercise to be run on a quantum computer emulator. Canvas and Unizin Maintenance – October 15, 16, and 19
IT colleagues,
This message is to notify you of upcoming maintenance windows affecting Unizin services and Canvas.
Unizin will be conducting maintenance on October 15th and 16th to perform mandatory upgrades to the CloudSQL network architecture affecting production, SIT, and UAT environments.

Join us for a virtual, informal, and candid discussion about caregiving. Whether you care for someone who is elderly, disabled, a relative, a child, a spouse, or any other loved one, IUWIT recognizes that being a caregiver can be extremely stressful. In this virtual setting, we invite you to vent, share resources and experiences, and find support from other caregivers. All sessions are open to anyone of any gender.

The Apple Consulting Engineer team will first give an overview of Apple Intelligence, followed by a discussion on Apple Intelligence Foundation Language Models and Private Cloud Compute. Each session is one hour including Q&A on the main topics, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session on any Apple-related topics. The sessions will cover the same material and are being made available to all higher education clients; these are not exclusive to IU.
