Infoshare: Dell 2025 client hardware rebranding overview

Dell will host an infoshare about the Dell client hardware rebranding occurring at the start of 2025. Our hosts will be Dell representative Jamie Stevens, and Dell client specialist Mike Patterson. This session will not be recorded.

Supercomputing For Everyone Series: Storage 201: Data Management and Administration

This workshop is a follow-up for IU faculty, staff, and students to Intro to Deep Learning on the Big Red Supercomputer taught by UITS Research Technologies (RT). Attendees will take a deeper dive into some problems that can be addressed with Deep Learning on Big Red 200. These topics include document similarity, custom GPU programming, and function optimization. These specific topics will illustrate general techniques that are widely applicable. IT Leadership Community reading and discussion groups – ITLC Book Club: Disability Visibility

Beginning Wednesday, November 6, the ITLC book club will be discussing Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century, edited by Alice Wong, with discussion facilitated by Aaron “Fish” Miller. Book IUCAT link, meeting Zoom link, and weekly reading assignments for the 7 sessions are available at the event link.

Vendor Event – Apple Office Hours

Apple invites you to attend an Office Hour session on either Wednesday, November 6 at 2pm ET or Thursday, November 7 at 12pm ET. The sessions will cover the same material and are being made available to all higher education clients; these are not exclusive to IU. The November Office Hours will cover how to best provision Apple devices in a password-less environment for a great user experience, followed by information on some successful strategies defending Apple deployments from all manners of threat actors. Each session is one hour including Q&A on the main topics, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session on any Apple-related topics. Apple Webex meeting links for each date will be provided in upcoming ITCP mailing.

EdCert course – Microsoft 365 Endpoint Administrator

In this course, students will learn to plan and execute an endpoint deployment strategy using contemporary deployment techniques and implementing update strategies. The course introduces essential elements of modern management, co-management approaches, and Microsoft Intune integration. It covers app deployment, management of browser-based applications, and key security concepts such as authentication, identities, access, and compliance policies. Technologies like Azure Active Directory, Azure Information Protection, and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint are explored to protect devices and data. This course will assist in the preparation for the MD-102 certification exam.

IU Women in IT – Candid Conversations for Caregivers

Join us for a virtual, informal, and candid discussion about caregiving. Whether you care for someone who is elderly, disabled, a relative, a child, a spouse, or any other loved one, IUWIT recognizes that being a caregiver can be extremely stressful. In this virtual setting, we invite you to vent, share resources and experiences, and find support from other caregivers. All sessions are open to anyone of any gender.

Supercomputing For Everyone Series: Advanced Topics in Deep Learning

This intermediate-level Storage Options and Data Management Best Practices workshop will discuss techniques and best practices for administering shared access to data, ensuring continuity of access, securing research data, and establishing a data lifecycle management policy. This workshop is intended for power users, lab PIs, and collection managers actively involved in generating, managing, and/or administering data. Topics covered include migrating data from cloud providers to on-premises IU digital storage (and vice-versa), best practices for storing and managing data, the distinction between backing up and archiving, and how to manage permissions for a data share. Endpoint Management Services – coffee hours: macOS Common Build

Endpoint Management Services (EMS) invites you to the final one-hour Microsoft Teams coffee hour to discuss and field questions about the IU Common Build and IU Print. This session is focused on macOS Common Build. These sessions provide you the opportunity to become more informed about these services and to ask questions. This is the last session this calendar year.

Did you know…
As previously announced, IU’s enterprise license for VoiceThread, a multimedia presentation and discussion app that plugs into Canvas, expires on December 31, 2024. However, VoiceThread will continue to be available as an opt-in tool that can be ordered via the IU eTexts program.
