IT Leadership Community Conversations on Leadership – Smoothing out the merge ramp: onboarding, fun?

We want to train new colleagues and help new hires get up to speed as quickly and easily as we are able. Help us crowdsource how we help our new team members get into our group and departmental routines. This IT Leadership Community sponsored series of informal discussions about leadership is open to anyone in the IU IT community. This one-day course introduces Microsoft 365, an integrated cloud platform that delivers industry-leading productivity apps along with intelligent cloud services and world-class security. You’ll gain foundational knowledge on the considerations and benefits of adopting cloud services and the Software as a Service (SaaS) cloud model, with a specific focus on Microsoft 365 cloud service offerings. This course assists in the preparation for the MS-900 Microsoft 365 Fundamentals certification.

Supercomputing For Everyone Series: Storage 101: Storage Options for Research Computing

This entry-level Storage Options and Data Management Best Practices workshop will introduce attendees to the various options for digital storage available through UITS Research Technologies, including Slate, Geode, and the Scholarly Data Archive (SDA). Topics covered will include comparative analyses of various types of storage media (chiefly, spinning disk vs. magnetic tape), breakdowns of various use cases and which types of storage work best for a particular use case, and comparative analyses of various technologies and methods for accessing IU digital storage resources. Supercomputing For Everyone Series: Getting Started with IU REDCap

This workshop introduces IU faculty, staff, and students to IU’s Research Electronic Data Capture (IU REDCap). REDCap is a self-managed, secure, web-based platform designed to support data collection and data management for research, operations support, and quality improvement projects. REDCap’s easy-to-use, intuitive features allow users to rapidly build and manage secure online surveys and databases. This hands-on course will cover the basics of using IU REDCap. EdCert course – Microsoft Automating Administration with PowerShell
8:30am-4:30pm ET

This course provides students with the fundamental knowledge and skills to use PowerShell for administering and automating administration of Windows servers. This course provides students the skills to identify and build the command they require to perform a specific task. In addition, students learn how to build scripts to accomplish advanced tasks such as automating repetitive tasks and generating reports.

IT Leadership Community workshop – Identifying Work + Life Needs & Making Changes

In this interactive workshop, attendees will explore their values and priorities for work and personal life and be guided through making a plan toward a specific change. Attendees will have an opportunity to share recognitions in breakout groups. This workshop could be a helpful resource for employees ahead of Performance at IU conversations, if those occur with their supervisor. Supercomputing For Everyone Series: High Performance Computing for Biologists

This workshop introduces IU Biology faculty, staff, and students to High Performance Computing (HPC) and the resources UITS Research Technologies makes available to them at IU to empower their research. This course follows on from the Introduction to HPC workshop and will cover the bioinformatics software available on IU’s supercomputing systems, the best ways to transfer, compute on, and store biological data, and how to efficiently utilize the systems. Endpoint Management Services – coffee hours: macOS Common Build
3-4pm ET
Endpoint Management Services (EMS) invites you to bi-weekly, one-hour Microsoft Teams coffee hours to discuss and field questions about the IU Common Build and IU Print. This session is focused on macOS Common Build. This will be followed in two weeks with a session focused on Windows Common Build, then two weeks later on IU Print. These session topics will continue to rotate every two weeks for the next several months to give you the opportunity to become more informed about these services and to ask questions.

Did you know…
On September 26, 2024, UITS will retire the Knowledge Management System (KMS) and complete the move of the IU Knowledge Base to the ServiceNow Knowledge platform.
- The Knowledge Base at kb.iu.edu will be available during the transition.
- There will be a needed content freeze on the Knowledge Base (no revisions or new content) on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 24 and 25.
- After the transition, both the home page at kb.iu.edu and existing pages will redirect to new ServiceNow Knowledge URLs for one year.
IT Community Partnerships (ITCP) supports those providing local UITS support at Indiana University through timely communications of important IT information, opportunities to connect with the IT community, and data resources to aid in decision-making for their unit or service.
