Dear colleagues,
Campus Networks will deploy Network Address Translation (NAT) IPv4 space for IUPUI wireless clients on the evening of Tuesday, June 27, 2023. This transition is modeled after the successful NAT deployment for wireless across the Bloomington campus in 2021/2022.
Historically, network devices at IU have been assigned a public IP (Internet Protocol) address for Internet access. Address space for IPv4 has become limited over the years as the number of networked devices continues to increase. This has resulted in high DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) use for wireless on the IUPUI campus — and adding more public IP address space is no longer an option. Deployment of NAT space solves this issue.
When IUPUI wireless devices are transitioned to NAT, they will be assigned an IP from the 10.24.0.0/15 address space, with a NAT source IP address using the 134.68.238.0/24 address space.
Action may be needed
The NAT space will be added to the host groups IUPUI_WIRELESS_SECURE and IUPUI_Networks for the Data Center Firewalls. If your firewall policies use that host group or All_IU_Networks, no changes should be needed. However, you may want to review your firewall policies and consider any host-based firewall rules/ACLs in place that might need to be adjusted with this change.
If you have questions about eduroam or the NAT implementation, please email noc@iu.edu.
