IT Professionals,
As important as it is to be vigilant in securing our IT assets and institutional data, we must be equally committed to reporting to appropriate parties when a security incident (or suspected incident) occurs.
An emergency IT incident, such as an exposure of critical data or potential violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), or suspected unauthorized access to systems interacting with critical data or which are critical to the University, should be reported immediately to a live person, no matter the time of day or night, weekday or weekend. Do not simply leave a message and wait for a return call.
Who to call (steps to take until you reach a live person):
- UIPO/UISO directly at 812-855-UIPO (8476) (business hours)
- UITS Network Operations Center at 812-855-3699 (24×7)
- UITS Support Center at 812-855-6789 (24×7)
When you reach the Support Center or Network Operations Center, ask staff to contact UITS Data Center Operations so that a page can be sent to the UIPO. A representative will then call you back.
Please also report the incident using one of the following methods:
- Online incident reporting form(authentication required).
- Send an email to it-incident@iu.edu outlining the incident details.
Please remember that no one is authorized to speak on behalf of Indiana University regarding incidents. In the event that you are contacted by members of the media, please direct all inquiries to Chuck Carney at ccarney@iu.edu. For internal inquiries, including IU students and their parents, please direct individuals to the IU Contact Center at 812.855.4848.
