Hello IT Professionals,
Campus Networks is planning to update the Security Certificates for eduroam and IU Secure on Wednesday, January 22, 2019. IU Guest and DeviceNet will not be affected. The current Security Certificates are due to expire January 27.
Campus Networks is working with Leveraged Services to package the new certificates for distribution via SCCM, Casper, and AirWatch. Devices that receive the certificate via these services will be ready for the update with minimal user impact.
The process of updating the certificate on the network should be transparent to users. However, the first time devices try to connect following the update, they are likely to prompt users to accept (or install) the new certificate. If the user accepts the cert (usually a single click is all that is necessary), the connection will proceed as usual and no further actions will be needed. Specifics about how users will be prompted and how they can accept/install the new cert will differ depending on device type, OS, and installed software.
If users do NOT accept the new certificate, the connection will fail. Subsequent attempts to connect will also fail until the new certificate is accepted. Additionally, most devices will NOT prompt the user to accept the cert again, so they will need to understand the issue and take action to install the new certificate before they will be able to connect with that device.
In most cases, simply removing eduroam/IU Secure from the list of recognized networks (aka “forget this network”) and then re-configuring the connection (and accepting/installing the certificate during that process) will be sufficient action to obtain the new certificate and restore connectivity.
If you have questions about the update, or encounter unresolvable issues connecting to IU Secure or eduroam following the update, please contact Support Center Tier 2 at sct2@iu.edu.
