IT Professionals:
As mentioned in a previous mailing, the rollout of modern authentication to all Exchange Online accounts has been delayed. Based on feedback from the 1IUIT Leadership Council, we are implementing a phased rollout. The next step in the rollout is to require modern authentication for all staff and group accounts. This change will be implemented on June 22 at roughly 9 am. Faculty, students, and other accounts will be migrated at later dates, and we will announce those once a date has been chosen.
We have noticed that some mobile email clients no longer receive mail after the change. Most issues have been isolated to mobile applications that are incompatible or do not gracefully handle the switch from basic to modern authentication.
Please check all mobile devices to see if they are affected. Affected applications will receive the following message in their inbox:
To resolve this issue, please delete the profile and re-add the account by following the instructions available on this KB document. Additionally, we have only noticed this issue with mobile devices. Desktop clients and the Outlook Web App are possible temporary workarounds while the issue is being resolved.
Staff and group accounts will receive a direct mailing about the change, and there will be a Monitor article on June 15 highlighting the change as well.
If someone has group accounts and is logged in using FASA, they should not need to repeat the process, but if they are logged in directly utilizing username and passphrase, they may need to update the profile for these accounts as well.
If an application directly interfaces with Exchange Online and cannot utilize modern authentication, please contact sct2@iu.edu who will help to troubleshoot and discuss options.
