IU Women in IT – Candid Conversations for Caregivers

Registration required
Join us for a virtual, informal, and candid discussion about caregiving. Whether you care for someone who is elderly, disabled, a relative, a child, a spouse, or any other loved one, IUWIT recognizes that being a caregiver can be extremely stressful. In this virtual setting, we invite you to vent, share resources and experiences, and find support from other caregivers. All sessions are open to anyone of any gender.

Vendor Event – Apple Office Hours: Apple Intelligence and Private Cloud Compute

Apple invites you to attend an Office Hour session on either Wednesday, October 9 at 2pm ET or Thursday, October 10 at 12pm ET. The Apple Consulting Engineer team will first give an overview of Apple Intelligence, followed by a discussion on Apple Intelligence Foundation Language Models and Private Cloud Compute. Each session is one hour including Q&A on the main topics, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session on any Apple-related topics. The sessions will cover the same material and are being made available to all higher education clients; these are not exclusive to IU. EdCert course – Microsoft Azure Administrator
8:30am-4:30pm ET

This course teaches how to manage Azure subscriptions, secure identities, administer the infrastructure, configure virtual networking, connect Azure and on-premises sites, manage network traffic, implement storage solutions, create and scale virtual machines, implement web apps and containers, back up and share data, and monitor your solution. This course assists in the preparation for the Microsoft Azure Administrator AZ-104 certification exam.

IT Leadership Community Diversity and Inclusion Action Team workshop – Supporting international staff: The immigrant experience
1-2pm ET
In this session, we will provide essential information on hiring international staff, covering topics such as Optional Practical Training for F-1 students, the H-1B visa, and the permanent residency process. We will also explore the challenges international staff face, including timeline constraints, issues related to their dependents, and the limitations on growth opportunities while they are on visa status.
Whether you are a current student or full-time international staff member, or leader, these discussions are designed to help you understand the process and promote greater equity for international employees. This IT Leadership Community D&I Action Team workshop is open to anyone in the IU IT community. Meeting Zoom link is available at the event link.

Supercomputing For Everyone Series: Quantum Computing
10am-2pm ET

This workshop provides a brief overview of Quantum Computing. A description of what it can and cannot do will be presented. Topics to be discussed include changes Quantum computing will make to the non-quantum, general HPC community, and why a disparate collection of large corporations are investing huge sums of money into a product which, as yet, has delivered no return. Also included will be a description of competing hardware and a simple, hands-on quantum programming exercise to be run on a quantum computer emulator. Endpoint Management Services – coffee hours: Windows Common Build
3-4pm ET
Endpoint Management Services (EMS) invites you to bi-weekly, one-hour Microsoft Teams coffee hours to discuss and field questions about the IU Common Build and IU Print. This session is focused on Windows Common Build. This will be followed in two weeks with a session focused on IU Print, then two weeks later on macOS Common Build. These session topics will continue to rotate every two weeks for the next several months to give you the opportunity to become more informed about these services and to ask questions.
