Subject: Critical Bug in New Quizzes Item Banks
Message Body:
Dear Canvas Instructor,
You are receiving this message because you are enrolled in at least one Canvas course containing a quiz created with the New Quizzes tool. We are writing to alert you to a critical bug affecting item bank questions in New Quizzes. If you don’t use item banks in New Quizzes or never incorporate images or file links into item bank questions, you can ignore this message.
Bug Description: When images or links to files stored in the course Files tool are added to item bank questions, these assets are only visible to students in the course where the question was created. If the bank question is used in a quiz in a different course, the image(s) and/or file link(s) in the question will not be accessible to students taking the quiz. As the instructor who created the questions, you will be able to see and access the images and files in any of your courses, which may create the false impression that your students will be able to access them as well.
Before saving item bank questions with images or links to files stored in course files, the following warning message will appear indicating that there may be a problem with the question:
You are attempting to save content containing course links which may not work when used in other courses.
More information, including the recommended workaround, as well as instructions on how to identify and remediate impacted questions, is provided in a Google document named (About the Bug in New Quizzes Item Banks)[ https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mk9yk2IArSYoysDJLq-QO0mKtDUVl2u0a1DATVNV6Is].
Questions and requests for assistance related to this issue should be directed to Lynn Ward (leward@iu.edu) with the UITS eLearning Services team.
Best regards,
