We are pleased to announce that registration is open for the EdCert spring 2024 semester. Aimed at raising the technical skill set of the IU community, the EdCert offers IT courses to IU employees at fixed pricing substantially below costs to the public. The EdCert’s Spring semester includes courses from fundamental to intermediate levels from Microsoft and CompTIA.
The EdCert is proud to offer DataSys+, a new course from CompTIA. This is a vendor-neutral course on database management.
Classes are online only and are taught by IU employees who are certified by Microsoft, CompTIA, CertNexus, and ISC². Classes meet 8:30am-4:30pm ET.

Monday, January 22 – Friday, January 26, Automating Administration with Windows PowerShell (Exam AZ-040T)

This course provides students with the fundamental knowledge and skills to use PowerShell for administering and automating administration of Windows servers. This course provides students the skills to identify and build the command they require to perform a specific task. In addition, students learn how to build scripts to accomplish advanced tasks such as automating repetitive tasks and generating reports. This course provides prerequisite skills supporting a broad range of Microsoft products, including Windows Server, Windows Client, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft 365. In keeping with that goal, this course will not focus on any one of those products, although Windows Server, which is the common platform for all of those products, will serve as the example for the techniques this course teaches.

The CompTIA Server+ course builds on your existing professional experience to present the next tier of skills and concepts that you will use on the job when administering any type of network server, be it in data center or cloud environments. CompTIA Server+ covers the latest server technologies including virtualization, security, and network-attached storage. Skills learned include server architecture, administration, storage, security, networking, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery. The course provides the primary knowledge and skills you will require preparing for any type of network server-related career and assists in preparation for the Server+ SK0-005 certification exam.

The CompTIA Network+ covers the essential knowledge and skills needed for configuration, management, and troubleshooting of common wired and wireless network devices. It ensures IT professionals can design and implement functional networks, identify benefits and drawbacks of existing network configurations, configure/manage/maintain essential network devices, use devices such as switches and routers to segment network traffic and create resilient networks, and implement network security, standards, and protocols. Also included are emerging technologies such as unified communications, mobile, cloud, and virtualization technologies. This course assists in the preparation for the CompTIA Network+ certification exam (N10-008).

CompTIA A+ is the industry-preferred qualifying credential for technical support and IT operational roles. It is about much more than PC repair. Candidates are better prepared to troubleshoot and solve problems, and technicians will better understand a wide variety of issues ranging from networking and operating systems to mobile devices and security. A+ supports the ability to connect users to the data they need to do their jobs regardless of the devices in use. CompTIA A+ CORE 2 covers installing and configuring operating systems, expanded security, software troubleshooting and operational procedures. Tuesday, June 18, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)

This course is suitable for IT personnel who are just beginning to work with Azure. This audience wants to learn about our offerings and get hands-on experience with the product. This course primarily uses the Azure portal and command line interface to create resources and does not require scripting skills. Students in this course will gain confidence to take other role-based courses and certifications, such as Azure Administrator. This course will also help prepare someone for the AZ-900 exam.
