IT Professionals,
Duo will stop supporting old Transport Layer Security versions (TLS 1.0 and 1.1) on September 29, 2023. Customers with old smartphones with an OS not updated since 2014 will not be able to authenticate through the Duo app.
A direct mailing has been sent to known accounts that will be affected, i.e. they are using Android OS v4.4.4, advising them to upgrade their device or to obtain a token.
Other customers may be affected too but there is not a full impact list available from Duo, so we notified all IU faculty, staff and students in the September 6 Monitor.
Refer to the KB article on Two-Step Login (Duo) device recommendations. For questions, please contact Tier 2 Support at sct2@iu.edu.

Subject: Please upgrade older Operating Systems to continue using Duo
Hello <name>,
You are receiving this email because our records indicate you have used an older device to approve a Duo push in the past for the account(s) below:
<list of accounts>
Duo is ending support for older TLS (Transport Layer Security) versions. TLS is a protocol that ensures secure communication over the internet by establishing an encrypted communication between your device and the Duo servers.
To avoid a disruption in the two-factor authentication process through Duo, please upgrade your device to a modern operating system (OS) before September 29, 2023, or plan to obtain a single-button hardware token. Learn more about Two-Step Login (Duo) device recommendations.
Contact your campus IT Support Center if your device is unable to upgrade to a recent OS.
Sincerely,
UITS Support Center
