Dear colleagues,
The Communications Planning and Implementation team continues to update IU’s telephony system, moving from Microsoft Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams Voice. Thank you for your feedback and collaboration as we move this project along.
This change will make most current, network-based desktop phone models obsolete. Faculty and staff who use network-based desktop phones will now need to switch to headsets or USB-based phones that are compatible with Microsoft Teams.
With changes in the way the world works and communicates over the past few years, the need for traditional desk phones is decreasing significantly. Given this, along with guidance from President Whitten’s cabinet, departments will be expected to cover the cost of any new equipment they choose.
We encourage you to work with your teams to determine if they need a device or if existing equipment they have will suffice.
Questions or comments can be directed to me at aaneal@iu.edu.
Thank you for your continued cooperation.
