IT Professionals:
We are making great progress with the migration of data from Google My Drive to Microsoft OneDrive. Every day, large amounts of data are migrated, and migrations are being completed.
We are hearing from some clients that the migrations are taking longer than expected. This could be due to the amount of storage consumed and/or the number of files. Because of this, we alert clients in the 7-day and 1-day emails informing them of migration that the process could take a week or more.
It could also be slower than expected because a client’s files have been modified or new files created during the migration. We certainly appreciate how not accessing files for a week or more can be disruptive to research, teaching, and other administrative work. However, when changes are made or new files are created during the migration, the process will try to complete but will not be able to do so due to the changes.
If you have a client whose migration has not been completed, and they need to access a subset of data stored in Google Drive, copy any needed files from Google Drive to a location other than Google Drive. Then open Google Drive settings on a client device and select “Pause Syncing”. This will stop changes from synching that might be triggered by background operations, such as updating metadata.
Clients with questions can continue to contact the UITS Support Center and IT Pros with questions can contact Tier 2 Support at sct2@iu.edu.
Clients and Pros are also encouraged to attend the Google Storage Coffee Hours Wednesdays at 10am to discuss any problems with service owners.
