IT Professionals,
The message below will be sent on October 6 to any My Drive account owner or Shared Drive owner who selected to purchase storage in Google Shared Drive. We are still waiting for Google to provide important capabilities to help manage this process. Before we have all the details finalized, account owners can follow the steps below to prepare for paid storage.
A list of accounts that have requested to pay for Google Storage is available in on the “My Drive Accounts over 4 GB” and “Shared Drive Migration” tabs of the Google Services Dashboard.

Hello,
Our records show that you selected the paid option for continuing to store your data in Google at IU. As we wait for Google to provide capabilities for this process, we’re finalizing the steps for purchasing storage.
Here’s what you can do to prepare for paid storage:
- If you don’t already have a Google Shared Drive, use this link to create one. Under “Choose your storage service,” select Google Shared Drive and Paid GSD.
- If you’re planning to move whole folders (not individual files) from My Drive, follow the instructions in this KB doc. You will need to complete this form to request a special administrative role in Google at IU to migrate folders. Requests are only processed once a week on Fridays.
- Move the content from your My Drive (group or personal accounts) into the new Google Shared Drive.
When your files are migrated, you’ll be ready for the paid Google at IU option. Once Google releases this option and UITS has fully tested it, you will receive instructions on how to pay for the Shared Drive.
If you have questions or need help, contact the UITS Support Center at ithelp@iu.edu.
Thank you,
Google at IU administrators
