IT Professional Colleagues:
With Box going read only on March 1, we recommend you uninstall Box Drive and Box Sync from any machines that are currently using the applications. Box Drive and Sync could cause data loss if a user saves data to their local machine believing that it has been uploaded to Box. In our testing with a read only account, we noticed two behaviors from the applications.
First, Box Sync may not provide any error notification. Rather, it will show an orange or red status badge on the local machine.
Second, Box Drive will usually provide two notifications:
- You have insufficient permissions to upload <file/folder>
Followed by:
- <file/folder> could not be updated.
This is identical to the error you receive if you don’t have sufficient access to a folder. It will also put a red warning badge on or next to the file or folder’s icon.
Additional information about the read only change and this recommendation is available in the KB [1].
