Microsoft Teams and Google marketplaces limited during security and privacy review
Applications in the marketplace environments often have user permissions and sharing capabilities that are not apparent to the user. Many marketplace apps (also called add-ons, plug-ins) have been developed by companies that IU may not have contracted with or vetted. To protect your files and documents, IU is conducting a formal review of these environments through January 31, 2021. [1]
During this review, the marketplaces in both storage environments will be limited to a select list of apps. If you are currently using Microsoft marketplace apps within Microsoft Teams, these will remain available for use during this review period. A list of common add-on apps that are temporarily available in both the Microsoft and Google environments are listed in Microsoft Teams and Google marketplace apps (add-ons) review.
If you have a critical business process that requires a marketplace app prior to January 31, 2021, and is not already on the temporary approval list, you may submit an exception request. Exception requests, which demonstrate that the inability to use an add-on app is impeding your business operations, will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Initial review may take two to five business days.
We will be reaching out soon with a survey to identify the most popular marketplace apps to ensure you have the tools you need to conduct university business.
Warm regards,
UITS Support Center
[1] As a reminder, per IU policy, to share restricted and critical data including health data, all third-party applications should be vetted using the Software and Services Selection Process (SSSP) before any data is shared. Do not, by any method, download apps that haven’t been reviewed through the SSSP, as these apps could compromise data security.
