Dear IT Professional Colleagues,
Support for Adobe Flash Player will end on December 31, 2020. Adobe decided to end support for Flash Player due to the diminished use of the technology and the availability of better, more secure options such as HTML5, WebGL, and WebAssembly. Customers will no longer receive security updates for Adobe Flash Player starting January 1, 2021. Because of the security risk posed by out-of-date software, the University Information Security Office recommends discontinuing the use of Adobe Flash Player.
If you use a Windows computer or server and this software is no longer needed, Microsoft is taking steps to remove Flash from all modern Windows operating systems [1]. Please ensure that the Windows Update from October 27 is installed [2] before December 31. This will automatically disable Adobe Flash Player. If you installed Adobe Flash Player manually from another source, however, users must remove Adobe Flash Player manually [3].
If you use a Mac computer and this software is no longer needed, Adobe has provided support documentation and uninstallers online [4]. Please ensure that Flash is removed before December 31.
For IT units who support business cases that require Flash functionality, please contact the UIPO to request a policy exception.
Please contact the UITS Support Center if you have any further questions.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
