Hello IT Professionals,
Campus Networks is currently positioning new network hardware supporting the enterprise areas within both the Bloomington and Indianapolis Data Centers that will expand bandwidth capacities and improve resiliency. This new hardware is an upgrade to our existing spine switches, which connect all top-of-rack switches (ToRs) and VM hypervisor chassis in the Data Centers to the core network. While this process will not start until after the first of the new year, we wanted to provide a brief summary of what will be happening in the coming months.
When the new spine switches are ready for production traffic, Campus Networks will be moving ToRs to the new spine environment row-by-row over the span of several weeks. These moves will involve a brief outage for anyone with physical systems in the enterprise areas of the Data Centers as the network connections are moved.
There will also be a coordinated effort with SAV to migrate VM hypervisor chassis to the new spine. For these moves, outages are not anticipated. Research areas in the Data Centers will not be affected.
More details about the dates for these migrations will be announced in future mailings to IT Pros and in UITS Change Management so system owners can plan accordingly. If you have questions about the project, or anything else related to networking in the Data Centers, please send them through our form at https://telecom.iu.edu/request/datacenter/general
