Microsoft will be changing the way that Microsoft Stream stores recordings made within Microsoft Teams. Historically, the recordings have appeared directly within the Stream application, and then can be captioned, downloaded, or shared from within that space.
On December 20, 2020, Indiana University will roll out the new update, which will store the video recordings within OneDrive or Teams storage, depending on where the recording is made, and who selects the recording button [1]. The link below also details who can access that recording by default, though permissions can be extended or restricted as needed. This also allows recordings to be shared outside of Indiana University, which was not possible before this update.
Within the Microsoft Teams application, the recordings will now state “Open in OneDrive” instead of the “Open in Microsoft Stream” menu option [2]. The opened file will play in browsers, and has a top menu to directly share, download, copy, and other functions [3].
Videos recorded within Teams before December 20, 2020 will remain in the Stream application for some period of time, but Microsoft eventually will move those recordings into Teams or OneDrive.
