IT Professionals,
A final round of notifications will be going out October 29th in regards to the disabling of the Microsoft shared-access protocol Server Message Block 1.0 (SMBv1). This is the third targeted notice being sent in regards to this retirement. To ensure notices are delivered to the correct IT Professionals or group account for your IT unit, please review and update your department’s contact information in IT People.
The UISO has run an active scan to identify any remaining Windows computers and servers with SMBv1 enabled. The UISO will then send a targeted notification to individuals associated with those systems with their IT People copied. The UISO will also be reaching out to department managers if there has been no response to the previous notification rounds. On Thursday November 12th, the UISO will run a final scan and will begin blocking devices based on results still showing an SMBv1 connection on November 16th.
If you believe SMBv1 is a necessary function of machines in your area, or if you have any questions in regards to this notice, please contact the UISO at it-incident@.iu.edu.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we have updated our processes to ensure that the results are as accurate as possible.
