Dear IT Pros,
As of the Microsoft 365 for Mac November 2020 update, macOS 10.14 Mojave or later is required to receive updates to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote [1]. If you continue with an older version of macOS, your Office apps will continue to work but you will no longer receive any updates including security updates. Additionally, new installs of Microsoft 365 for Mac will also require macOS 10.14 or later.
In addition, support for Office 2016 for Mac will end on October 13, 2020 [2]. Office 2016 apps will continue to function—they won’t disappear from your Mac, nor will you lose any data. However, you’ll no longer receive Office 2016 for Mac software updates from Microsoft Update, including security updates.
It is recommended that you update all macOS 10.13 or older devices to avoid issues or security concerns with Microsoft 365 applications. Jamf site owners are encouraged to create a search to help track these devices.
