Hello IT Professionals,
IT Community Partnerships will host IT Pro Orientation on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm via Zoom online meeting, utilizing breakout rooms [1]. This orientation will have a focus on online, cloud-based, and collaborative technologies available through University Information Technology Services. Examples technologies include IUAnyWare, Office 365, Google at IU, as well as services like Support Center Tier 2 and IT Training.
The interactive IT Pro orientation has been revised to include two, informational components:
Online orientation information accessible through Expand
Online interaction between IT Pros and UITS Service providers
The new IT Pro Orientation hinges on Canvas Expand modules covering each of the service areas. In this way, we are able to provide information on core services and support to the broadest audience at any time. IT staff coming into your units are able to readily access the IT Pro Orientation information as soon as they have access to Expand; engage with the materials; and receive acknowledgement of their efforts upon completion. In this way, we have taken the information presented during IT Pro Orientation and made it continuously available to staff everywhere within the IU community. As new information around key services evolve, we will update the Expand site so that information remains as relevant as possible to the work IT Pros do.
While orientation information will now be continuously available, we have taken the IT Pro Orientation a step further by making the interactive component much more collaborative and engaging. In this way, attendees will interact with UITS Service Owners, asking questions based on their unique needs and concerns, and engaging with all IT Professionals, whether within UITS or from other IT units. Regardless of your location, all IT Pros are encouraged to register to gain access to the Canvas materials and learn more about the service providers.
The basic structure of the September 25 Online IT Pro Orientation is as follows:
10:30-10:40 | Check In/Intro |
10:40-12:00 | Tabling Session 1 |
12:00-1:00 | Break for Lunch |
1:10-2:30 | Tabling Session 2 |
2:30 | Closing |
New (and veteran) IT Pros will have 10 minutes to interact with service owners to ask questions about a specific tool or service before the service owners move to different groups. The event emcee will signal time for the service owners to switch between breakout rooms, while the participants will stay in their group, enforcing a strict one-minute move between rooms. Presenters in each room include staff from all UITS Services as well as the ITCP team to discuss services they provide such as: Community Engagement, Outreach, Collaboration and Sustainability.
In addition to raising general awareness during the 10-minute sessions, presenters at each station will answer questions and introduce next steps toward adoption or awareness of their respective service or support area. This interactive opportunity builds rapport and opens the door for future communications between the service provider and IT Pro.
Following the event, attendees will receive a Qualtrics survey inquiring about the day’s activities and input on future events.
All attendees need to register [2] for the Canvas course. IT Pros that are able to attend the interactive online orientation must also register for the event [3]. Registration will close on September 24 at 12:00 pm.
