IT Professionals:
This message contains information to help you support those authenticating with IU Login (formerly CAS). No action is required at this time as migration information will be shared at a later date.
For many years, CAS (Central Authentication Service) has been synonymous with authentication at IU. Last year, this service was rebranded as IU Login to meet the diverse needs of the institution, such as supporting additional authentication protocols (OIDC and ECP) alongside existing protocols (CAS and SAML). Later in the year, UITS began the process of migrating select applications to new infrastructure— which we will call IU Login 2.0 for the purposes of this message.
While IU Login 2.0 looks almost identical to the existing IU Login, login sessions between the two infrastructures are not shared. This means you may be prompted to log in more often, depending on the application you are visiting. This experience has become more commonplace, as Canvas moved to 2.0 over the summer, and will continue until all applications have migrated.
One change you may notice with some instances of IU Login 2.0 is the appearance of two tabs to the right of the IU Login branding. These University and Guest tabs allow account holders of different types to log in with a variety of authentication methods. Unless you are using a Guest account to log in, you’ll continue to use the University tab with your username and passphrase.
Additionally, the IU Login 2.0 URL begins with https://idp.login.iu.edu instead of https://cas.iu.edu. This has caused some confusion for those users who were instructed to look carefully for the cas.iu.edu URL to avoid being phished. This graphic provides tips for ensuring the site is genuinely IU Login.
