IT Professionals,
A second round of notifications will be going out in the next few business days in regards to the disabling of the Microsoft shared-access protocol Server Message Block 1.0 (SMBv1). To ensure notices are delivered to the correct IT Professionals or group account for your IT unit, please review and update your department’s contact information in IT People [1].
The UISO will run an active scan next week to identify any remaining Windows computers and servers with SMBv1 enabled. The UISO will then send a targeted notification to individuals associated with those systems with their IT People contacts copied. The UISO will also share the impact list via an ITCP Tableau dashboard [2] so that the IT Leaders can verify systems in their area.
In order to view the dashboard, viewers must be listed as a sub-lead or leader in IT People, as well as be compliant with UA [3], FERPA [4], and HRMS Data Use Tutorial [5].
On August 19th, the UISO will begin blocking devices based on scan results showing an SMBv1 connection. If you believe SMBv1 is a necessary function of machines in your area, or if you have any questions in regards to this notice, please contact the UISO at it-incident@iu.edu.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
