IT Professionals,
As part of the Box retirement [1], the Uploader permission [2] will be disabled for all users on May 31. Users who have been granted the Uploader permission can upload content to the associated folder, although they cannot view or download any of the folder’s content. Unfortunately, this role does not exist in Google Drive at IU and MS OneDrive and must be disabled before migrations out of Box begin.
An impact list of affected users has been created and is available via a Box Entrusted Data Account folder [IU Login Required]: https://iu.box.com/s/fgt989cjgiat6262s0br80siumq17iq4
The spreadsheet includes a tab of the owner that gave the Uploader permission and the second tab is the list of users with that permission. The name of folders with this permission are currently withheld for security concerns.
Once the permission is disabled, the following changes can be expected:
- Collaborators who previously had this permission will no longer be able to upload data to the associated folder. This will affect existing collaborations.
- Folder owners will not be able to assign the Uploader permission to collaborators. This will affect future collaborations.
Users are encouraged to develop workflows in either Google Drive or OneDrive. One option in both Drive [3] and OneDrive [4] is to build a form with a File Upload question. Please contact sct2@iu.edu if you have further questions about this change.
As always, we will continue to provide timely communication/additional information to this list concerning future updates.
