Resources for Summer 2020 courses – IT Community Partnerships

The following text was sent to Summer 2020 faculty late yesterday and we would like to make you aware of what information is being shared.

With the recent announcement that all summer courses at Indiana University will be conducted remotely, we are writing to share some resources that may help ease the transition to online teaching this summer.

Online course template

A new online course template will be available for use in all summer 2020 Canvas courses. The template includes suggestions for how to use Modules, Syllabus, and other frequently-used Canvas tools to build your online course.

The online course template is optional. If you’d like to explore the template beforehand, you can preview it in Canvas Commons. All summer course sites will be available on Thursday, April 9.

Electronic course materials

Electronic course materials available through the IU eTexts program and the IU Libraries are especially helpful to students in online courses.

Through the IU eTexts program, faculty can choose from low-cost digital textbooks and courseware from more than 35 publishers. The materials are linked directly from your Canvas course.

Summer ordering for eTexts is open until 8pm ET on Friday, May 1. If you would like to use an IU eText, we encourage you to place your order as soon as possible.

To order IU eTexts, click on the Order Tool button at uits.iu.edu/textbook. After you order, a consultant will contact you directly with information to ensure your success with IU eTexts.

In addition to IU eTexts, there is a wide range of content available through the IU Libraries and/or no-cost Open Educational Resources (OERs). Contact the library on your campus for help in selecting library resources or OERs for use in your course.

Open textbooks can also be delivered through the IU eTexts program. When searching for OERs in the IU eTexts catalog, select the Open Textbook Library from the Publisher drop-down menu.
