IT Professionals,
The Campus Communications Infrastructure (CCI) team would like to remind you that on December 15, 2019, the Active Directory administrators will implement a cleanup of Stale Objects in the directory [1].
Specifically, this will target:
- Computer Objects in any OU that have not connected to the Domain in 180+ days
- Group Policy Objects that are not linked to any Organizational Unit
The CCI team has worked with IT Community Partnerships and the Support Center to create and host impact lists on IU Box [2].
Actions for IT Pros:
Any computer object that remain disconnected from Active Directory for more than 180 days should be rebuilt.
Any Group Policy Object that is unlinked the majority of the time should have a new blank OU created, a link created to that GPO, and then it still can be applied to your “real” OU when needed without fear of it getting deleted. An example of this would be a Patch Tuesday GPO that is only linked to your workstations OU when patching is taking place. Alternatively, GPO’s can be disabled instead of unlinked until needed.
Please contact sct2@iu.edu with any related questions or concerns.
