vPC, Canvas, Pearson, Taskstream Updates: October 12-27, 2019

The eLearning Services team (eLS) want to inform you of several upcoming changes and maintenances.

First, Instructure will be performing maintenance on the Google Apps LTI [1] on Wednesday, October 16 between 3:15 am and 5:15 am EST. During this window, there will be a ten minute period in which the LTI is inaccessible.

Next, there is a Canvas [2] update scheduled for Saturday, October 19 between 8:00am and 12:00pm EST.  Canvas will receive feature updates and bug fixes managed by the vendor (Instructure). Highlights in this update include:

  • Updated Features
    • Rich Content Editor: Start using the new Rich Content Editor
      • Note: must be enabled in the Feature Options section of Course Settings in each course
    • Course Navigation Menu: Updated interface
  • Fixed Bugs
  • API updates

See the release notes [3] for a full list of expected updates and fixes, including a short (~5 minutes) screencast reviewing this release.

Additionally, there is a scheduled vendor update [4] for the following Pearson applications [5] on Saturday, October 26 between 1:00 am and 9:00 am EST:

  • Mastering, MyLabs and Mastering, MyLabsPlus: Students and instructors will be unable to access courses via the integration or standalone website. Grade Sync functionality will be queued so that no data is lost.

Finally, Taskstream [6] by Watermark will be offline on Sunday, October 27 from 5:00 am – 11:00 am EST to perform routine system maintenance. Your data will remain secure and fully backed up during the maintenance window.

This maintenance will affect the Taskstream service directly as well as Taskstream integrations with Canvas. During this maintenance neither instructors nor students will be able to utilize Taskstream features in Canvas [7].
