Hello IT Professionals,
IT Community Partnerships will host IT Pro Orientation on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 10:30 am – 2:45 pm at the Lecture Hall on IUPUI’s campus in room LE104 [1].
The interactive IT Pro orientation has been revised to include two, informational components:
- Online orientation information accessible through Expand
- Onsite interaction between IT Pros and UITS Service providers
The new IT Pro Orientation hinges on Canvas Expand modules covering each of the service areas. In this way, we are able to provide information on core services and support to the broadest audience at any time. IT staff coming into your units are able to readily access the IT Pro Orientation information as soon as they have access to Expand; engage with the materials; and receive acknowledgement of their efforts upon completion. In this way, we have taken the information presented during IT Pro Orientation, and made it continuously available to staff everywhere within the IU community. As new information around key services evolve, we will update the Expand site so that information remains as relevant as possible to the work IT Pros do.
While orientation information will now be continuously available, we have taken the IT Pro Orientation a step further by making the onsite component much more collaborative and engaging. In this way, attendees will interact with UITS Service Owners, asking questions based on their unique needs and concerns, and engaging with all IT Professionals, whether within UITS or from other IT units. ITCP will live-stream the onsite component of orientation for registered participants so that IT Pros from afar can experience the interactive sessions. Regardless of your location, all IT Pros are encouraged to register to gain access to the Canvas materials and learn more about the service providers.
The basic structure of the November 19 in-person IT Pro Orientation is as follows:
10:30-10:40 | On-site Check In |
10:45-11:47 | Tabling Session 1 |
11:48-12:21 | Lunch and ITCP Presentations |
12:22-1:24 | Tabling Session 2 |
1:25-1:36 | Break |
1:37-2:39 | Tabling Session 3 |
2:40-2:45 | Wrap Up |
New (and veteran) IT Pros will have six minutes to visit a number of UITS service “stations” where they can interact with service owners to ask questions about a specific tool or service before moving to the next station. The event emcee will signal time to switch between stations; enforcing a strict one-minute move between stations. Presenters at each station include staff from all UITS Services as well as the ITCP team to discuss services they provide such as: Community Engagement, Outreach, Collaboration and Sustainability.
In addition to raising general awareness during the six minute sessions, presenters at each station will answer questions and introduce next steps toward adoption or awareness of their respective service or support area. This interactive opportunity builds rapport and opens the door for future communications between the service provider and IT Pro.
Following the event, attendees will receive a Qualtrics survey via the Canvas course inquiring about the day’s activities and input on future events. Once the survey is completed, the IT Pro will receive their IT Pro Orientation certificate. The IT Pro should reference this certificate during their annual review to indicate the accomplishments they have achieved and to represent all that they have learned serving in their role.
All attendees, whether online or in-person, need to register [1] for the Canvas course. IT Pros that are able to attend the interactive in-person orientation must also register for the event [2]. Registration will close on November 8 at 12:00 pm.
